WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team never slowed during its run at the season-opening Baylor Invitational this weekend at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Bears topped all competition in the singles and doubles finals as well as dominated the singles consolation bracket.

Top-seeded Carolin Walter defeated teammate Zuzana Cerna, who was third-seeded, 6-3, 6-0 in the singles finals. Later Cerna with her doubles partner Klara Zrustova upset the first-seeded duo of Walter and Daniela Covello with an 8-4 win.

In the singles consolation, sixth-seeded Daniela Covello beat Lamar's Andrea Martinez 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals and went on the win the bracket by defeating Breda Kovac from Southeastern Lousiana 6-1, 6-2.

Overall the tournament proved to be a showcase for Baylor's veteran team as they swept through every round with astounding victories. The team will be back in action Sept. 23-25 at the North Texas Invitational in Denton, Texas.

In other news, Baylor's nationally ranked Zuzana Zemenova, No. 7, played today in a professional tournament, $75K Albuquerque. She won her first match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 against Jasmin Schmack. Assistant coach Rebekah Rhodes commented on Zemenova's play saying she was little rusty at first, possibly due to a two hour delay, but pulled it together and foreshadowed greater play for the rest of the tournament. Zemenova will play again Monday against Kristen Schlukebir.
