Three players who missed nearly all of fall camp with injuries returned to the practice field Tuesday as the 1-0 Baylor football team began preparations for Saturday's 6 p.m. home opener against Samford. The Bears drilled for nearly two hours in shells on the grass practice fields.
Junior offensive tackle Travis Farst (knee cap), senior wide receiver J Fields (hamstring) and senior offensive tackle Hunter Herring (knee) all returned to the practice field Tuesday after missing nearly all of fall camp and the SMU game due to injuries. All three should be available for duty on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
"If we're not ready to play, we can get beat," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "I want to make sure that we're focused and ready to go play. As far as we're concerned, it is step two toward our goal and it would be a shame to drop this one. We as coaches are not going to allow that to happen. If we take these guys lightly we'll have a dog fight on our hands
Baylor will continue its prep work for Saturday's game with a 3:10 p.m. workout on Wednesday.
Notes: True freshman wide receiver David Gettis has become a recruitable prospect again, Morriss said during Tuesday's teleconference ... Honorary game captains for the Samford game, as selected by the coaching staff, are Jon Piorkowski on special teams, center Will Blaylock and running back Paul Mosley on offense and defensive end Marcus Foreman ... Senior wide receivers Ryan Jeffrey (broken left hand) missed Tuesday's workout and isn't expected to return to the field until next week at the earliest ... Both season and single-game tickets for Baylor's five-game home schedule are on sale through the school's Athletic Ticket Office (1-800-BAYLOR-U).
