WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Southwest Regional Championships hosted by TCU Oct. 20-23. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
In addition to TCU and Baylor, the women's event will feature the top players from Division I schools: Centenary, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, UTA, Texas-Pan American, Texas-San Antonio, Texas Tech, Texas State and UTEP.
The Bears are sending eight netters, five of whom are seeded. Zuzana Cerna enters as the tournament's top seed. Seeded behind Cerna are teammates Klara Zrustova (3th), Lenka Broosova (8th), Iva Mihaylova (10th), and Jessica Zok (12th).
In doubles Cerna and Broosova are seeded fourth and Zrustova and Zok are seeded fifth.
At last year's tournament, Zuzana Zemenova defeated Cerna for the singles title 6-4, 6-1. Zemenova held this year's top seed before bowing out of the tournament with a viral infection.
Eighteen Wilson/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over these last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country.
