FT. WORTH, Texas - Baylor's Zuzana Cerna and Lenka Broosova were the last Bears standing in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Southwest Regional Championships hosted by TCU held Oct. 19-24. Baylor's fourth-seeded duo advanced through the main draw's semifinal round in doubles before falling to host TCU second-seeded pair, Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska.
Before facing the Horned Frogs in the semifinals, Cerna and Broosova quickly defeated 13th-seeded Stephanie Davison and Petra Dizdar from Texas 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Overall the Baylor pair picked up four wins before their semifinal loss.
In a doubles main consolation draw, Jana Bielikova and Iva Mihaylova earned three wins while Jessica Zok and Klara Zrustova fell in the final round of another doubles main consolation draw. Baylor's tandem won three matches before withdrawing from the final match with an injury.
In singles action, Cerna and Zrustova reaching the main draw's semifinals highlighted Baylor's regional play. Zok, Mihaylova, and Broosova advanced through the quarterfinal round.
Women's tennis takes a weekend off before returning to the courts Nov. 3-5, in two events, the Palm Springs Doral Desert and the National Indoors.
