Due to unprecedented demand from Baylor students, the tarp covering the south end zone at Floyd Casey Stadium was lifted Thursday afternoon and general admission tickets will be made available for Saturday's Baylor-Texas A&M football game which kicks off at 6:05 p.m.
"We made the decision to open the south end zone in order to meet the demand from Baylor students and fans who want to be a part of this exciting event," said Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "We are very appreciative of the significant increase in student support for the football program and want to afford every Baylor student the opportunity to be a part of his marquee game.
"We are looking forward to one of the largest crowds in Floyd Casey Stadium history and a great atmosphere for the game," he added.
In Floyd Casey Stadium's 56-year history, their have only been four crowds of 50,000-plus, the last of which came on Oct. 21, 1995, when a stadium-record 51,218 packed the edifice for the Aggies' 24-9 victory over the Bears. All-told, six of the stadium's top 10 crowds and 11 of its top 25 crowds have come for Baylor-Texas A&M games.
As of mid-afternoon Thursday, Baylor students have picked up nearly all of their allotment of approximately 11,000 tickets for Saturday's 103rd Battle of the Brazos between the Bears and the 22nd-ranked Aggies. In an effort to ensure that all Baylor undergraduate students who want a ticket to Saturday's game, the athletics department will offer Baylor students showing identification an opportunity to pick up south end zone tickets through Friday at 5 p.m. from either the Floyd Casey Stadium ticket office or the Bill Daniels Student Union Building distribution point.
Per policy, all Baylor students attending Saturday's game must show a valid Baylor student ID with their game ticket or they will not be admitted to Floyd Casey Stadium.
The remaining south end zone general admission tickets will be sold to the general public at $35 each, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Floyd Casey Stadium ticket office. At noon, any remaining tickets for the game may be purchased only through the west stadium's ticket windows until kick off.
The only tickets remaining for Saturday's game are located in the north (1,500) and south (3,000 general admission only) end zones. All tickets along the east and west sidelines are sold out.
McCaw encourages all fans to arrive early and car pool if possible to the game as traffic will be heavy and parking limited. Gates to Floyd Casey Stadium will open at 4 p.m., and Snickers Touchdown Alley will open at 3 p.m.
The athletic department has arranged for additional shuttle service for this game only. Shuttle service will run from the Ferrell Center to Floyd Casey Stadium beginning at 4 p.m. Parking at the Ferrell Center is free.
