Soccer Falls in Regular Season Finale

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Baylor soccer team dropped its regular season finale, falling to Texas Tech, 2-0, in action on Friday night. With the loss, Baylor falls to 6-11-1, 3-7-0 in the Big 12, while Texas Tech improves to 7-11-2, 2-7-1 in conference with the win.

After a scoreless first half, Texas Tech got on the board in the 49th minute when Chessa Purser headed in a shot that bounced to her off the crossbar to put the first goal on the game. Brittney Harrison and Sarah Greer picked up assists on the goal as Texas Tech took a 1-0 lead.

The score would remain the same until the 78th minute when Zhaleh Rezaie connected on a penalty kick to give the Red Raiders a commanding 2-0 lead with only 12 minutes left.

Baylor was unable to cut into the lead the rest of the way as Texas Tech's Tina Rincon made four saves in goal to pick up the combined, shutout victory. Ashley Holder made three saves in net for Baylor in the loss.

On the night, Texas Tech out-shot Baylor, 17-10, as Carolyn Lynch led the way for Baylor with two shots on the night.

With the loss, Baylor secured the No. 8 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Championships as the Bears will take on No. 1 Texas A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 11:00 a.m. in San Antonio at the Blossom Soccer Complex.
