BAYLOR SOCCER TRAVELS TO NEBRASKA TO FACE THE HUSKERS

WACO, Texas - The Baylor soccer team looks to continue its winning ways as the Bears return to action this weekend for a single game when the team travels to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7:00 p.m.

"We have been playing our best soccer of the season as of late," head coach George Van Linder said. "Nebraska is an extremely tough place to play; and, we will have to continue to play our best if we want to come away with a win."

Baylor enters with a record of 5-6-1, 2-2-0 in the Big 12 Conference after the Bears swept a pair of conference opponents last weekend, defeating Iowa State and No. 17 Missouri. Baylor, currently tied for fourth in the Big 12 Standings, is led by goalkeeper Ashley Holder, who has posted four shutouts on the season and was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last weekend.

On offense, Baylor is led by Anna Schuch, who leads the team with five goals, two assists and 12 points on the season. With her game-winning goal against Missouri last weekend, Schuch became only the fourth player in school history to record at least five, game-winning goals during her career.

Nebraska enters the weekend with a record of 6-3-3 on the season after tying Colorado, 1-1, and falling to Kansas, 1-0, last weekend. The Huskers are led by Brittany Timko, who leads the team with eight goals, five assists and 21 points on the season.

In the net, Nebraska features Jamie Klages, who has posted three shutouts on the season and sports a 0.93 goals against average on the year.

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Baylor 11-3; however, the Bears have won two of the last three meetings, including a 4-3 victory over the Huskers the last time the teams squared off in Lincoln. The Huskers captured the last meeting with a 1-0 win over Baylor last season in Waco.

NOTING THIS WEEKEND

• Baylor's Ashley Holder picked up a pair of national honors this past week as the junior was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week and was named to SoccerBuzz Magazine National Elite Team of the Week.

• Anna Schuch leads the Bears heading into the weekend as the senior forward leads the team with five goals, two assists and 12 points on the year.

• Nebraska leads the all-time series with Baylor, 11-3; however, the Bears have won two of the last three meetings.

WORKING THEIR WAY UP THE CHARTS

With only two seniors and 13 newcomers to this year's squad, only a few players on this year's roster have found their way onto the career record books. However, there are a few players on the 2006 roster making their way up the charts. Most notably, junior goalkeeper Ashley Holder, who currently ranks second on the career saves list with 289 for the season.

Ashley Holder PICKS UP PAIR OF HONORS

Baylor junior goalkeeper Ashley Holder earned a pair of honors for her performance this past weekend as she was named to SoccerBuzz Magazine's National Elite Team of the Week and was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Holder made 13 saves on the weekend as the junior helped lead Baylor to a pair of shutout victories over Iowa State and No. 17 Missouri. Against the Tigers, Holder made eight saves as Baylor picked up a win over a nationally-ranked team since defeating No. 22 Texas, 2-1, in overtime in 2004.

Against Iowa State, Holder made five saves in net before giving way to freshman Gianna Quintana in the final five minutes to pick up the combined shutout victory.

With the shutout of the Tigers, Holder picked up her fourth shutout of the season as she moved into second-place on Baylor's career shutout list.

The weekend wins were the first weekend sweep of Big 12 opponents for Baylor since 2001 as the win at Missouri snapped a 13-game road and neutral winless streak.

The honor marks the second time the goalkeeper has been named to the national team of the week as the junior also picked up the honor as a freshman. Holder was the only Big 12 Conference player to be named to the squad this week as she became the first player in school history to be named to the team of the week twice in her career.

The Big 12 honor marks the third time Holder has been named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week during her career after she earned the distinction following her performances against Texas and Texas A&M during her freshman season in 2003 and after performances against UT-San Antonio and Samford earlier this season.

The junior became the first defensive player this season to be recognized for the honor more than once.

Holder and the rest of the Baylor soccer team returns to action this week as the Bears travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7:00 p.m.

NEXT TIME OUT

Baylor will conclude its home portion of the schedule as the Bears meet Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m. before facing Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 1:00 p.m.
