WACO, Texas -- Baylor senior outside safety Maurice Linguist was named to the 2006 Big 12 Conference Fall Sports Good Works Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Linguist, a three-year starter in Baylor's secondary, is in his first semester of graduate school after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies last summer.
Each Big 12 institution selected a student-athlete for recognition based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in a conference-sponsored sport. The fall semester team recognizes student-athletes who participate in football, cross country, volleyball or soccer.
Linguist is in his second year on Baylor's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and in January will begin his term as the organization's president. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and served as president during the 2005-2006 academic year.
