The No. 10 Baylor women's tennis team blew past UT-Arlington today in a 5-2 victory over the Lady Mavericks. With this win, the Bears improve their record to 6-1 on the season, 1-0 in conference. This marks the eighth straight win for the Bears in nine meetings with UT-Arlington.
Baylor took an early lead when Zuzana Zemenova and Daniela Covello defeated UTA's Klara Jagosova and Daniela Novakova 8-3. The No. 31 team of Klara Zrustova and Zuzana Cerna sealed the doubles point for Baylor winning 8-2 over Simri Van Rooyen and Monika Peciulionyte. UT-Arlington's Anete Rozkalne and Marissa Brown defeated two of Baylor's newest netters, Sammi Gottlich and Rachel Clark 8-3.
In singles, Baylor's Covello started things out strong for the Bears taking down Van Rooyan in a quick 6-1, 6-1 match. Sara Pesic gave the Mavericks a point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gottlich. Baylor quickly recovered with Zrustova picking up a win over Rozkalne and Cerna clinched the match defeating Novakova 6-0, 6-4. No. 17 Zemenova finished off No. 49 Jagosova 6-2, 6-1 to give the Bear's their fifth point. The last one on the court, Clark fought to the end of both sets but finally fell to Brown in a 7-5, 6-4 decision.
Next up, the Bears will travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Vanderbilt Sunday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. Results will be posted at www.baylorbears.com.
