WACO, Texas - Fila released its newest rankings today in association with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for NCAA Division I women's tennis. Baylor fell from No. 8 to No. 11 after competing at the UTSA/ITA Indoor Team Championships where the Bears dropped a key match against then-ranked No. 13 Duke, now ranked No. 5. In the consolation rounds, Baylor upset then-ranked No. 6 Georgia,now ranked No. 17, and also defeated then-ranked No. 22 BYU, now ranked No. 21.
Overall, the top ten list changed dramatically as four new programs jumped in ranking after strong showings at the ITA tournament. No. 3 Texas and No. 6 California made the biggest leap as each team moved up 12 spots, Texas from No. 15 and California from No. 18. Stanford and Florida remain the top two programs in the nation sitting at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
The Bears are 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference. After playing in the tournament last weekend, Baylor upped its record against ranked opponents to 3-1.
The women netters return to action when they host UT-Arlington Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. Baylor marketing has special Valentine's Day promotions scheduled for the match including dinner for two for one lucky couple.
