WACO, Texas - Baylor's women netters easily defeated Fresno State this evening in a 7-0 sweep at the Baylor Tennis Center. Tonight's match was the first time the Bears have played the Bulldogs.
Baylor tallied the first point of the evening after sweeping the doubles matches. Court two finished first as Zuzana Zemenova and Iva Mihaylova quickly defeated Tinesta Rowe and Magda Tokarska 8-3. Soon after court three, Daniela Covello and Zuzana Krchnakova beat Jacqueline Haskett and Melanie Gloria 8-4.
Highlighting the doubles action was Zuzana Cerna and Klara Zrustova's upset on court one. The pair fell 0-2 against No. 7 Fresno State duo Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter. The Bears battled back to eventually evened the match at 8-8 resulting in a tie-breaker. The points wavered back and forth between Baylor and Fresno State but the Bears won the tie-breaker 11-9 and the match 9-8.
In singles action, Krchnakova quickly defeated Tokarska 6-1, 6-2 on court six while Cerna bested Winterhalter 6-2, 6-1 soon after on court two. No. 88 Zrustova earned Baylor's fourth point and clinched the win with her victory over No. 83 Sainz 6-3, 6-2 on court three.
The rest of the matches played out as No. 12 Zemenova defeated No. 61 Gloria 6-4, 6-0 on court one, No. 97 Covello beat Towe 6-1, 6-4 on court four, and finally Mihaylova posted the final point with her 6-4, 6-3 victory over Haskett on court five.
The Bears resume conference play this weekend when they host Nebraska on Saturday and Oklahoma State on Sunday.
