No. 9 Women Netters Outlast No. 10 California

WACO, Texas - Baylor shows no signs of slowing as the Bears took down No. 10 California this evening in a 6-1 win. The Bears have again one all six single points though Cal earned the solo doubles point. Baylor has now defeated three top 10 programs this spring.

California managed to earn only one point this evening against Baylor as they swept through doubles.

Baylor claimed all six singles points for the third-straight match. No. 92 Daniela Covello got the ball rolling for her Bears as she defeated Claire Ilcinkas 6-2, 7-6(3) on court three to earn Baylor's first win. Zuzana Krchnakova played a solid match against Bojana Bobusic on court six an won out 6-1, 7-5. In a match up of top-rated competition, No. 8 Zuzana Zemenova claimed Baylor's third point with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win over No. 10 Zsuzsanna Fodor, Zemenova's 10th win against a top 10 opponent.

The final three matches went to tiebreakers as Baylor battled to claim the overall match. On court two, No. 16 Zuzana Cerna clinched the win for the Bears with her hard-fought 6-4, 6(1)-7, 6-4 victory against No. 21 Suzi Babos. Cerna has now won 17 of her 18 dual matches. Next Iva Mihaylova helped Baylor in a singles-sweep as she bested Cal's Jessica Shu 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 on court five. And finally on court four, Klara Zrustova upset No. 69 Cristina Visico. The pair split after two matches and the third set resulted in a final tie-breaker. Zrustova eventually claimed the match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(1).

Baylor has now won 10 the its last 11 matches dating back to February. Tonight's win extends the Bears record to 16-3 this spring.

"Our players have proven that they can beat a top 10 program. It's a solid victory for us, and it's really going to help us in NCAA tournament seedings," said head coach Joey Scrivano.

This weekend the Bears will travel to Lubbock, Texas to face No. 50 Texas Tech at noon. Livestats will be available at www.baylorbears.com.
