WACO, Texas - Baylor's No. 9 women's tennis team travels to Lubbock, Texas, this weekend to take on No. 50 Texas Tech at noon on Saturday. Tomorrow's match will the 25th between the two programs. Baylor leads the series 14-10 and has won 13 of the last 14 matches.
The Red Raiders are 12-4 overall and 5-1 in conference this spring but will play Baylor with either another win or loss as Texas Tech is playing at No. 51 Texas A&M this afternoon. Texas Tech's netters have won eight of their last nine matches prior to today's match at Texas A&M. Though the Raiders are ranked nationally as a team, they have no singles or doubles teams appearing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) individual polls.
Baylor boasts three individuals ranked by the ITA. Sophomore Zuzana Zemenova heads the rankings at eighth while junior Zuzana Cerna is 16th and senior Daniela Covello is 92nd. The Bears also have two ranked doubles teams as Cerna and Klara Zrustova are 28th and Zemenova and Covello are 39th.
Baylor is currently 16-3 overall and could remain undefeated in conference play (5-0) with a win at Texas Tech. Also worth note, the Bears have won 18-straight conference matches dating back to April of 2004.
