Baylor senior Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas) is tied for second just one stroke off the lead, but the Bears stand seventh as a team after the first two rounds of The Aggie Invitational Saturday at the 7,235-yard, par-72 Traditions Golf Club.
Baca started the morning with a 1-under par, followed by an even-par 72 for a total of 143. He trails Texas A&M's Robert Gates, who shot 72 and 70 for a 2-under par 142 and is tied with Texas Tech's Oscar Floren, who opened with a 75, but came back with a 68 in the second round.
Junior Colton Turquist (Austin, Texas) is tied for 32nd at 154 with rounds of 80 and 74, while junior Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas), who is playing individually, is tied for 38th at 155 with a 77 and 78.
Junior Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) is tied for 42nd at 156 with back-to-back rounds of 78, while junior Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) and sophomore Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) are tied for 61st at 162. Alcorn shot 77 and 85, while Williams shot 82 and 80.
Texas A&M (577) leads the team competition by 15 strokes over Texas Tech (592), but the Red Raiders hold a narrow lead over third-place Kent State (593) and fourth-place Oklahoma State (594).
The tournament concludes with the third and final round Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
