WACO, Texas - Baylor redshirt freshman Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas), junior Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) and senior Will McDonald (Birmingham, Ala.) were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
McDonald was named to the first team for the second time in his career and is a nine-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor roll member. McDonald made one appearance this season, averaging 77.33 strokes per round. His best career finish came at the 2004 Hyatt Dorado Beach Invitational, where he tied for 10th. He twice shot a career-low 54-hole total of 217 and shot a career-low 68 in the final round of the 2005 Lexus Naples Intercollegiate Invitational.
Thomas earned the honor for the first time he was eligible after transferring from New Mexico. He was also named to the 2005 spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Thomas has appeared in six tournaments for the Bears this season and carries a 76.24 stroke average.
Allcorn is a business major who posted a 74.93 stroke average in five tournaments this season. He is a three-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and posted a perfect 4.0 in the spring of 2005.
This past summer, Allcorn qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship and was the runner-up at the Collegiate Players Tour National Championship.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league men's golf squad consisted of 26 first team members combined with 10 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
