WACO, Texas - This weekend Baylor's women's tennis team will play two Big 12 matches in Kansas as the Bears look to extend their 18-match regular-season conference win-streak. On Saturday Baylor will play a noon match at No. 56 Kansas State's Washburn Tennis Facility in Manhattan, Kan. Sunday's match is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Lawrence, Kan., at the No. 63 University of Kansas' Robinson Courts. The Bears currently hold an overall record of 17-3 and lead the conference with an undefeated 6-0 mark.
Baylor set a women's program record this week by posting five Bears in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) rankings. Sophomore Zuzana Zemenova remains Baylor's highest ranked player and became the program's highest ranked player ever as she climbed the poll to No. 4. Junior Zuzana Cerna also jumped in rankings as she is currently ranked No. 11. Also in the top 120 are No. 101 Klara Zrustova (junior), No. 104 Daniela Covello (senior), and No. 120 Iva Mihaylova (junior). In the doubles rankings, the Cerna/Zrustova duo is ranked No. 38.
Against Kansas State, Baylor leads the series 9-3 and has won the last five meetings. Kansas State recently moved up two spots in the ITA's rankings to No. 56. Among the Wildcats, none of the roster is ranked in the individual singles and doubles polls. Kansas State's overall record is 8-6, and the Wildcats are currently ranked fourth in the Big 12 with their 4-2 mark.
In Lawrence, Kan., the Bears will face Kansas' Jayhawks for the 12th time. Baylor leads the series 8-4 with the last loss to Kansas in 2003. The Jayhawks fell one ranking this week as they sit at No. 63 in the ITA polls. In individual rankings, freshman Ksenia Bukina is the only Jayhawk to appear as she is ranked No. 107. Kansas is currently 11-7 overall this spring and 2-4 in conference, where KU is ranked eighth. Before hosting the Bears on Sunday, the Jayhawks will have a chance to improve their record as they host Missouri on Saturday.
