May 1, 2006

WACO, Texas - The Big 12 office announced 2006 All-Big 12 awards on Monday which include an all-star team, individual player honors and coaching awards. Among the women's honors, sophomore Zuzana Zemenova and junior Zuzana Cerna were named to the All-Big 12 team while Zemenova was also picked at 2006's Player of the Year. Head coach Joey Scrivano earned the women's Coach of the Year award.

The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. It marks the second time in Big 12 women's tennis history (Anda Perianu, OU, 2003-04; Zuzana Zemenova, Baylor, 2005-06) that an athlete has been outright winner of Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

Zemenova wins the Player of the Year award and is named to the All-Big 12 team for the second straight season. The sophomore was a unanimous selection for Player of the Year after posting an 11-0 record in league matches. She is ranked No. 6 in the nation and has posted a 29-5 singles ledger and 16-9 doubles mark. Along with being last year's Player of the Year, Zemenova was also 2005's Freshman of the Year.

Cerna made Baylor history this year by tallying the most singles wins in a season (42). At the No. 2 spot, Cerna lost only one match this spring (26-1) and went undefeated against Big 12 opponents (10-0). The junior is currently ranked No. 16 in the nation. This year is Cerna's first to make the All-Big 12 team though she was last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Both Zemenova and Cerna were named Big 12 Player of the Week this spring as well. Zemenova earned the award twice.

In the All-Big 12 doubles team, Baylor's duo of Cerna and Klara Zrustova made the list. The pair went 6-7 at No. 1, 6-1 at No. 2 and have a 5-3 conference record. This is Cerna's second year to make the All-Big 12 doubles team.

Scrivano earns women's coaching accolades after the Bears recorded an 11-0 conference record and also won the postseason crown. It is Baylor's third Big 12 regular-season title and its second-straight with an undefeated record. Scrivano led the Bears to their first post-season Big 12 Championship title on Sunday when No. 5 Baylor blanked No. 20 Texas 4-0 in the finals. Overall the Bears are 25-3 this year.
