WACO, Texas - The NCAA Division I Tennis Subcommittees have selected men's and women's singles players and doubles teams to participate in the 2006 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships hosted by Stanford May 23-29. All matches will be played at the Taube Tennis Center at Stanford, who is also playing host to the team championships May 18-23.
In singles, sophomores Zuzana Zemenova, defending women's NCAA singles champion, and Lars Poerschke are both seeded fourth in their respective brackets while junior Zuzana Cerna is seeded in the ninth-16th range; the specific seedings for those numbers have yet to be released. Junior Michal Kokta is an at-large participant while junior Matija Zgaga is an alternate selection.
For the doubles teams, Kokta and Poerschke are automatic qualifiers for Baylor and are the only doubles duo to appear in the selection from the Bears' men's and women's squads.
Along with the prestige of receiving a top seeding in the tournament, players who are seeded automatically obtain All-American status. For Zemenova, this is her second season as a singles All-American and Cerna picks up her first All-American honor with her singles seeding. For the men selected, Poerschke earns his first All-American season in singles with his top seeding.
Seedings are determined by the subcommittees based on the criteria listed in the championships handbook then approved by the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet.
