Baylor golfer Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas), who just completed his senior season with the Bears, will tee off in the final group Thursday at 2:42 p.m. on the 10th hole for the first round of the 106th U.S. Open at the 7,264-yard, par-70 Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Baca will have Baylor teammate Will McDonald (Birmingham, Ala.) as his caddy.
Baca is paired with Andy Bare of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dustin White of Pueblo West, Colo., for the first two rounds. The group will tee off at 9:12 a.m. Friday for the second round from the first hole.
Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest said he has been in contact with McDonald this week and plans to talk to Baca later today.
"Will told me Ryan is a little nervous right now," Priest said. "I'm just going to tell him to enjoy it. It's going to be the toughest conditions he's faced, it's his first (PGA) Tour event and his first major, so getting through that is the first battle. It's a special event, and you never know if you'll be in that position again, so just enjoy the moment."
Baca qualified for the U.S. Open by tying for first at the local qualifier in Houston.
