WACO, Texas - Baylor catcher Zach Dillon was named second-team All-Midwest Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced Wednesday. Dillon, who currently is a member of the Baltimore Orioles organization, was a second-team selection.
Dillon, a senior from Urbandale, Iowa, led Baylor in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.364), hits (75), walks (53), times reached base safely (134) and on base percentage (.496). He also shared the team lead for doubles (14) and RBI (47). Dillon led the Big 12 Conference in walks, times reached base safely and on base percentage; his on base percentage was the highest in Baylor baseball history.
This marks the second consecutive season in which Dillon has earned second-team all-district honors after earning such accolades at designated hitter last season. Nevin Ashley of Indiana State was the first-team catcher this season.
At least one Baylor player has earned ABCA all-region honors every year since 1996. Dillon joins Kelly Shoppach (2001) and Josh Ford (2005) as the only Baylor catchers to be named all-region.
