Marcello Selected as Team USA Strength Coach

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association announced the selection of Baylor softball speed coach Brandon Marcello as the strength and conditioning coach for the USA Softball National Teams. Marcello will work with the USA National Teams on all aspects of strength and conditioning as well as nutritional plans.
"I am extremely excited and honored about this opportunity," Marcello said. "I am looking forward to working with the coaches, players and the entire USA Softball organization as work towards their fourth Olympic gold medal."
Marcello has been developing strength and conditioning programs for the past decade and currently serves as the speed coach for the Baylor softball team.
While at Baylor, he has developed sport-specific speed and conditioning workouts along with a detailed nutritional program for one of the Big 12 Conferences most successful programs. During his tenure at Baylor, the Lady Bears have reached 100 stolen bases in each of the past three seasons and established a new Big 12 Conference record with 155 stolen bases during the 2005 season.
Prior to arriving at Baylor, he served as the strength and conditioning coach for various programs at LSU.
"Brandon brings great passion as well as a wealth of knowledge to our sport", said USA Softball head coach Mike Candrea. "His softball specific background will definitely be an asset to the USA program."
Before taking on his position at LSU, Marcello worked as the Associate Director for Athletes' Performances in Tempe, Ariz. He aided in the development and implementation of performance enhancement programs used by such sports leagues as the National Football League, Ladies Pro Golf Association and Major League Baseball Spring Training Preparation. He has worked with in the Olympic movement including Mia Hamm (Soccer), Mary Joe Fernandez (Tennis), Nomar Garciaparra (Baseball) and Mary Pierce (Tennis).
Marcello is a graduate of Marshall University where he also received his master's degree. He has contributed to several published books and articles and will complete his doctorate in exercise and sport nutrition at Baylor in December of this year.
Marcello is currently with Team USA at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, Okla. Team USA plays in the championship game against Japan at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17, on ESPN2.
