After its first off day since fall camp began, the Baylor football team returned to practice on Monday evening with a 2 hour and 15-minute workout on the grass practice fields at Floyd Casey Stadium.
"They were sharp and had a little skip in their step," said Morriss. "I think it (the off day) really freshened them up. We are not going to keep them out here long, which should help them."
After watching his team being slowed by nagging injuries over the first 16 practices, the Bears' training room was cleared out for Monday evening's workout which followed the first day of classes on the Baylor campus. The only players held out of the workout were senior preseason All-America punter Daniel Sepulveda (sore knee), senior linebacker Paul Howard (sore knee) and freshman offensive lineman Dylan Hagens (sore back).
The Baylor offensive line, receiver and linebacker corps were all at full-speed on Monday, which brought a smile to the Bears' fourth-year head coach.
"Travis (Farst) moved really well, he said that he didn't have any problems and that he just has to trust the knee and I think over the course of the next couple of days he will do that," said Morriss. "Gay (Dan) moved good, Will (Blaylock) toward the end of practice had some soreness, but I think he will be fine. It was good to see all of the receivers back working and I think the linebacker corps was back out here. So, we are kind of at full speed for another day or two, hopefully.
"We've cut a lot of the hitting out of it (practice), which ought to help them," he added. "We are going to have them out here in hot part of the day tomorrow, so we'll keep the time down."
The Bears return to the practice field on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. Baylor opens its 2006 season at home on Sept. 3 against No. 22 TCU at 4:30 p.m. in a nationally-televised (Fox Sports Net) contest.
