Well September 3rd is almost here. I remember thinking back in the spring, when I walked by the countdown to kickoff clock we have in the locker room, that the season could not get here fast enough. For the 32 seniors, this will be the last season we will ever wear the Green and Gold.
I feel very blessed to be in the position I am in and there are no other guys I would rather want to go into battle with than the teammates I have on my team right now. This team is very talented and a veteran ball club that has been through many ups and downs along the way. I believe that the experiences we have had throughout the years have prepared us for this upcoming season and it all starts with our first game this Sunday against TCU.
TCU has won 11 games twice in the last three seasons. They have a very talented group of guys on both sides of the ball. Although they lost a lot of guys on offense, they still have some talented returnees. I feel as though the strength of their team is their defense, which returns seven starters from last fall. TCU deserves its respect, but I feel we need to concentrate more on ourselves than the Horned Frogs. If we play like we are capable of, limit mistakes and take care of the football we will be fine.
Next Sunday is an important start to our season. It is not only our first game, but it is a home game against an instate school and refuels an old SWC rivalry. This game could be a jump start for our team providing us with a big win to get the season going. This is a great test for our team and also a great opportunity to showcase our new offense. I feel very confident with where we are as a team right now and I hope it shows on Sunday afternoon.
With all of the excitement about the upcoming season, I am expecting a large crowd and that will have a huge impact on our team. You do not realize how much your support means to us and how much it helps. I hope to see all of you at Floyd Casey Stadium and cannot wait to see all of the Green and Gold.
My teammates and I hope to make this a very special season and we seniors want to go out of here with a bang. Expect a "swarming" defense and a "playmaking" offense. See you September 3rd. Enjoy the show!
Sic'em Bears.
