MIDLAND, Texas - After just one day of action at The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, freshman Taylor Ormond was the only member of the Baylor women's tennis team to advance in the winner's bracket, but eventually lost in the round of 16 to end Baylor's championship bid.

Ormond opened with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over North Texas' Catalina Cruz to advance to the round of 16, but fell to Miami's Romy Farah, 6-7 (6), 2-6 to bring tournament singles action to an end.

Fellow freshman Karolina Filipiak lost her opening round match to TCU's Kewa Nichols (4-6, 4-6) and fell to the consolation bracket, only to drop her second match of the day, losing to UT-Arlington's Monika Hadvigerova.

"Today was very disappointing," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "We didn't do any of the things we need to do in order to win."

Sophomore Zuzana Chmelarova also dropped her first two matches of the tournament, losing to UCLA's Stephanie Wetmore (4-6, 4-6), before suffering a 5-7, 6-4, 5-10 loss to North Texas' Narine Kazarova.

Baylor also dropped its lone singles match of the day.

The Bears may return to competition in limited fashion throughout the remainder of the weekend, picking up a few matches against other who also failed to advance.
