Head Coach Guy Morriss

Opening statement

"I am sure that you are all aware of the situation with Coach Schnupp and I have decided to suspend him indefinitely until this situation is resolved and that is basically all I have to say about that at this particular time."

How does it feel not knowing who the quarterback will be 4 days before kick off?

"It is not the ideal situation but it is the situation we are experiencing at this time we will evaluate those guys and try to make a determination to who gives us the best chance to go in the football game with and that is what we will do."

Blake's concussion

"We were first made aware of it yesterday. He came in and complained of headaches. I think we will know something this afternoon."

Did he know or did he just play through it?

"I have never had a concusion so I don't really know how those things feel so he may have not known it or thought he was just having a bad headache you know he played through it. But I didn't realize he had it till late yesterday."

In all the years you've played in the NFL and no concussions?

"No concussions, pretty hard, this ole noggin."

Who will take over?

"Right now I think we will evaluate the two older guys a little bit more."

How do you think these other QB's stand up next to Blake?

"I think that they do bring more maturity to the table.... We are going to take a look and see how they practice and see what happens."

How to you feel about josh bells performance?

"Josh is playing pretty solid he has covered well and tackled well and is doing everything we have asked him to do and playing at a pretty high level right now."

Are these older QB's different?

"They are big guys; Mike is a little taller and I think John probably has the better arm, no disrespect to Mike because he throws the ball well himself, and in our system you don't have to have a cannon you just have to know where to go with the football."

Have those QB been getting reps all year?

"They get reps almost everyday to some degree you put in your two guys who you think your going to go into the ball game with but we have different periods during our practice schedule where all our quarterbacks are throwing to receivers and they are running the same routes we are going to run in the game and so it is not like they have just been sitting on the shelve they have been throwing the football and there arms are still live and I think they have a good sense of timing with the receivers and they have been involved since day one with that so I don't think it is going to be much of a problem"

How is Texas looking for this week?

"From just looking at bodies they look just as good as they did last year they are playing well. It looks to me like the secondary may be better than it was last year. If you look at them statistically it would indicate that. I think they would test our protection. "

Offensive Coordinator Lee Hays

ON THE KANSAS GAME

"There's not really much to talk about from an offensive stand point because we really didn't do a whole lot. The biggest thing I'm dealing with right now is the turnovers. You aren't going to win many games if you throw interceptions... Sometimes it's better to punt than to throw it up."

ON OFFENSIVE LINE

"The offensive line played their best game. Those kids got after it. They gave up a sack but really it wasn't a coverage sack or anything. The young quarterback missed the hot, and the guy was wide open. I thought that they blocked really well on that play and they're continuing to get better."

ON TEXAS GAME

"Well Texas is Texas, they're good across the board. They come out in their 4-3. It's going to be a challenge and we need to go out and give it our best and not turn it over."

ON QB'S TAKING RISKS

"Well, we have a lot of verticals built into the playbook and we want to have him to be confident to take those throws and not be pulled out of the game to take that chance for a big play. There are also times when there are two guys on him and you have to realize the difference between reading the coverage and taking a risk."

"Blake gives us the best opportunity to win, but to be honest Blake has had a mild concussion and that is going to open things up for us. And Blake understands we cannot throw interceptions. When that happens we have look at other avenues."

BLAKE'S CONCUSSION

"As far as I'm sure, he's not out, but probably no contact in practice.... It was news to me yesterday about the concussion"

Defensive Coordinator Larry Hoefer

"I don't think the score indicates how well we played at times. We got four sacks. I read in the paper that the quarterback said it was his worst outing. We tried to put some good pressure on him. We were able to record six tackles for a loss. We didn't have a penalty for the game on defense which we are still working at that area. I thought that was good. They had a hard time driving the ball a long way. They only had 17 points on drives over 50 yards."

"Field position is a huge part of football, losing territory and gaining territory. We've got to help our offense more with turnovers. I was disappointed because we didn't get a turnover for the first time in a long time. We will still continue to work on that. That is one of our highest priorities on defense."

"We work against the offense each week and it's our job to stop them or hold them to field goals; do the best you can in each situation and I think our team did that."

"Texas does a good job in their surveillance. Just watching them on tape, they are able to shorten the routes and throw it quickly if you outnumber them on the blitz."

"You try to make an offense one dimensional. Sometimes you are successful, sometimes you're not. Texas has an outstanding offensive line and always have. You've got to respect that. Once a team starts running it and five of them get you on your heels, they can do whatever they want to."

Nick Moore

Turn it around this week

"Getting a win right now could really help our season out"

What does it mean to play Texas?

"They think that they are better than everybody else and they think that we don't deserve to go there. But we want to show them that we are right there with them and we can close we just have to listen to our team and listen to our coaches and go out there and win this week."

After losing 5 games do you think you have a chance?

"We have got to keep something on our minds to keep our heads up and give ourselves a fighting chance to still get to our goal and this week a win against Texas could change things all around."

Brandon Whitaker

How do you feel about a new QB this week?

Blake is the guy we have been playing with a lot, and whoever the qb is we are going to have to feel comfortable with and it is our job as offense and defense and just a team to rally up behind him and make sure he feel comfortable

Did you notice anything about Blake during the game?

"He seemed a little different on the side line and it wasn't the same I didn't know it was a concussion but come yesterday we found out it was."

Joe Pawelek

What went on Saturday?

"Coming of 2 or three losses we've been playing some pretty good teams but at the same time we felt we didn't perform doing what we needed to do."

How do you feel about playing Texas this week?

"Playing Texas at home it doesn't get much bigger than that."

Is Texas the team everyone wants to beat?

"They seem like they have been that for the last few years and one a national championship a few years ago and they are a great team and great program."

So is the rest of this season not looking to good?

"There are still 5 opportunities to go out there and play well."
