On November 1, 1997 the Baylor Bears shocked the Texas Longhorns, defeating them 23-21 on Homecoming at Floyd Casey Stadium. Longhorn running back Ricky Williams rushed for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as running back Darrell Bush and the Bears combined for 241 yards rushing of their own.

The strong defensive play also put the Bears in position to score, as Matt Bryant kicked his third consecutive field goal, and Watson threw a touchdown pass to Bradley Domel to make the score 23-14.
"I told them yesterday to just keep playing, playing hard, and something good would happen," said Baylor coach Dave Roberts. "It's nice to win. It's been a while."
