Baylor hits the road in conference play as the Bears travel to face Missouri at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Hearnes Center. The Bears, currently riding a five-match winning streak, are coming off a 3-1 win over Kansas on Wednesday.
The Bears notched their fifth-straight win, and fourth-straight conference victory, on Wednesday night using their second-best hitting performance of the season. Baylor hit .374 (72-14-155) and tied a season high with 11 service aces. The Bears season-high hitting percentage came in a 3-1 win over Texas Tech when Baylor hit .383 (72-15-149). Baylor also recorded 11 service aces in a 3-1 win over Sam Houston State at the SMU/Radisson Invitational.
Baylor's five-match winning streak is the longest since the Bears won 11 in a row last season. The four-match conference winning streak is the longest since 2001, when the Bears also won four straight against Big 12 opponents.
The Bears tied a school record for single-game hitting percentage in the rally-scoring era, hitting .667 (19-1-27) in game one against Kansas. Baylor also hit .667 at Sam Houston State during the 2003 season. Baylor recorded the tenth-best single-game hitting percentage in game four as the Bears tallied a .514 (20-2-35) hitting percentage.
Ashlie Christenson set a new career-high with 18 kills on .433 hitting. She also added six digs and one block. Anna Breyfogle tallied 18 kills on .533 hitting with three aces, three blocks and eight digs. Taylor Barnes and Haley Thomas also hit over .500 for the match as Barnes connected on eight kills and no errors to hit .571, while Thomas contributed nine kills with no errors on .562 hitting.
Katie Sanders added 14 kills and four service aces and recorded a team-high 12 digs to notch her 16th double-double of the season. Sarah Grace also reached double-figures with 11 digs.
Missouri enters the match having lost four of its last five contests. On Wednesday, Missouri pushed second-ranked Nebraska to five games before falling 15-10. The Tigers suffered three straight sweeps to Nebraska, Texas and Kansas State before defeating Colorado in five games last Saturday. Julianna Klein leads the Tigers with 4.44 kills per game, while Tatum Ailes owns a 4.91 digs per game average.
