Baylor returns home on Saturday afternoon as the Bears play host to 12th-ranked Kansas State at 12 noon at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears are coming off a 3-2 loss at Iowa State on Wednesday, the second straight 3-2 loss for Baylor. A week ago, the Bears fell 3-2 at Missouri, their first five-game loss in Big 12 play. Both five-game losses in Big 12 action came on the road against opponents that swept Baylor in Waco.
Iowa State got out to a quick 5-2 lead in game five, and held an 8-4 advantage as the teams switched sides of the court. After Iowa State built a 14-12 lead, Baylor scored to straight to tie the score. The Cyclones took advantage of two Baylor hitting errors to win the match 16-14.
Iowa State won the game with defense as the Cyclones tallied 102 digs led by Ashley Moss' 29. Six Iowa State players tallied 11 or more digs, and the Cyclones recorded 17.5 blocks.
Katie Sanders led the way for Baylor with 20 kills, while Anna Breyfogle and Ashlie Christenson each added 17 kills. Haley Thomas also reached double-figure kills with 10.
Baylor recorded a season-high 90 digs, led by Sarah Grace with 22. The Bears also tallied 14 total blocks, with Amanda Modglin contributing eight, while Breyfogle added six blocks.
Taylor Barnes dished out 61 set assists and added a service ace and 16 digs for the Bears.
Kansas State enters the match following a 3-2 win over Texas A&M in Manhattan on Wednesday. Last weekend, the Wildcats led Nebraska 2-0 at home before falling to the Cornhuskers 3-2. Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Natalya Korobkova leads the way for Kansas State with 417 kills and a 4.53 kills per game average. Kelsey Chipman ranks second behind Breyfogle in blocks per game with a 1.46 average. Kansas State is the top serving team in the Big 12, averaging 1.96 service aces per game.
