Waco, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team kicks off its 2007 campaign, as it travels to compete in the 12th annual UTSA Intercollegiate on Feb.19-20 at Oak Hills Country Club (6,691 yards/par 71). The tournament begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Monday.
The field consists of 17 teams, including 11 from last year's field and defending champion Baylor. The two-day intercollegiate is scheduled for 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 the next day.
Last season, the Bears shot a three-round score of 855 (three-over par) to win the tournament by 13 strokes. Ryan Bacca took home medalist honors with a 14-under 199, including a 7-under 64 in the first round. Bacca set the Baylor 54-hole record in capturing his fourth career individual title.
Jeremy Frye earned a tie for eighth at last year's event, with a 54-hole score of 215 (two over par). Jeremy Alcorn (12th) and Wes Williams (t-24th) also earned finishes in the top 25 with 54-hole scores of 218 and 223, respectively.
Teams participating in this year's intercollegiate are Air Force, Arkansas State, Baylor, DePaul, Illinois State, Louisiana-Monroe, Marshall, McNeese State, Miami (Ohio), New Orleans, Northern Iowa, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Texas-Pan American and UTSA.
Last season, Baylor placed seveth at the Big 12 Championships held at Southern Hills C.C. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Bears earned a birth in the NCAA West Regional at Omni Tucson National G.C. in Tucson, Arizona, finishing 20th out of 27 teams.
