Describe your relationship with head coach Jim Barnes.
Jim and I have been friends for about 15 years. We played volleyball together and against each other in the early 90's and began coaching at the collegiate level around the same time. I've always had a lot of respect for what he has accomplished, and, in talking with him through the years, it was apparent we had a lot of similarities in what we taught and in our coaching philosophy. We have a mutual respect for each other that will go a long way in building a great program here.
What is the outside perspective of Baylor Volleyball?
Baylor volleyball is viewed as an up and coming program that is headed in the right direction. Baylor offers a number of things in the Big 12 that no other conference school can offer. That makes us unique and that is a great quality when recruiting the kind of players we need to be successful.
As a former head coach, what qualities can you bring to an associate coaching position?
I've run the whole show before and been around the game a long time. I know what it takes to be successful and how important it is to have an assistant you can count on. My perspective on what's happening will give Jim another experienced opinion on how to look at things, and I know he trusts my judgments and insights.
What adjustments will you have to make moving from head to associate coach?
Not being in complete control of everything. But this is a good thing; two heads are better than one! The Associate Head Coach title means a lot to me, and I see myself as having a much bigger stake in the quality of the program.
What will be your main responsibilities at Baylor?
I will be in charge of recruiting and any on-court training that Jim assigns me.
What areas of volleyball and coaching do you consider strengths?
My strengths in coaching are my ability to teach people to be successful, and to explain skills in a simple and effective way to help players and teams overachieve. A great attitude and work ethic are two things I would like everyone who plays for me to take away from the experience.
