WACO, Texas --- Lisa Ferguson tossed a complete game shutout in game one as Ashley Monceaux delivered a walk-off, bases loaded single in game two as the No. 16 Baylor softball team swept a pair of games from Houston, 5-0 and 2-1, in action at Getterman Stadium on Tuesday. With the wins, Baylor improves to 12-2 on the season while Houston falls to 6-6 on the year.

"I thought we came out focused in game one and played well against a good Houston program," head coach Glenn Moore said. "In game two, I thought we lost our composure a little bit; but, we found a way to win and that is what good teams do."

In game one, Baylor jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Monceaux's RBI single down the left field line to score Nicole Wesley from third base.

The Lady Bears added a pair of runs in the second to extend the lead to three as Maritza Martinez laid down a perfect bunt for a RBI single while Monceaux added her second RBI of the game with an infield single to score Kirsten Shortridge to make the score 3-0.

With Houston unable to cut into the lead over the next three innings, Baylor put the game away with a pair of runs in the sixth when Tiffany Wesley delivered a run-scoring single while N. Wesley's sacrifice scored Alex Colyer as the Lady Bears claimed a five-run lead heading into the final inning.

Ferguson did the rest, shutting down the Cougars in the top of the seventh inning for her second shutout of the season and 22nd of her career, moving her past Joni Miller (21, 2000-03) and into second on Baylor's career shutout list.

Despite allowing three hits, Ferguson faced the minimum during the contest as she was aided by three double plays from the Baylor defense as she moved to 5-2 on the season after striking out three batters and allowing no walks in seven innings of work.

Monceaux led the way in the win, going 3-for-4 with two RBI as Kelsey Sage added two hits in the win.

In game two, Baylor needed a walk-off single from Monceaux in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a one-run win and pick up the sweep over the Cougars.

The Lady Bears jumped to an early 1-0 lead when T. Wesley scored on a passed ball and were cruising along until Elaina Nordstrom delivered a game-tying solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score at 1-1.

With Houston unable to score in the seventh, Baylor loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the inning. After the Cougars forced Danielle Honnette out at home, Monceaux came to the plate and drilled a 2-0 pitch off the center field wall, easily scoring Colyer from third for her Big 12 Conference leading 24th RBI of the season as the Lady Bears claimed a 2-1, walk-off win.

Monceaux also picked up the victory in the circle as the senior tossed one inning of scoreless relief to improve to 3-0 on the year. Shortridge pitched well for the Lady Bears and did not factor in the decision, allowing only one run on six hits in six innings of work while striking out three.

Candi Kloecker took the loss for Houston and fell to 0-2 on the season after allowing one earned run on eight hits in 6.1 innings of work.

With the win, Baylor improved to 8-0 at home on the season as the Lady Bears are now 8-3 all-time against the Cougars and have won four straight in the series.

Baylor will return to action on Friday, Feb. 23, when the Lady Bears open play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., against Georgia Tech at 11:00 a.m.
