MALIBU, Calif. - Baylor's No. 25 women's tennis team wrapped up its California trip with a 6-1 win Wednesday over No. 26 Pepperdine. The Bears went 1-1 on the road to move to a 9-6 overall record.
"This was one of our better efforts of the season. We still have a lot of work to do if we want to achieve our goals," said head coach Joey Scrivano.
Baylor won the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. No. 55 Lenka Broosova and Klara Zrustova defeated Eva Dickes and Anete Bandera 8-6 on court two after Iva Mihaylova and Zuzana Zemenova won 8-4 on court three against Jillian Bravermann and Tania Rice.
Baylor carried the momentum into singles play and clinched the match with five more points. No. 67 Broosova won the first singles match as she returned to action at the three spot, besting Dickes 6-4, 6-0. Next Pepperdine managed a win on court six but was never able to fully recover.
No. 52 Zuzana Cerna edged No. 123 Caroline Rabe 6-1, 7-5 on court two to pull the Bears within in striking distance. No. 38 Zuzana Zemenova clinched the match for the Bears on court one defeated No. 94 Sylvia Kosakowski 6-4, 7-5.
Mihaylova and Zrustova played out their matches on courts four and five, respectively, and added two more points to the Bears' eventual 6-1 victory over the Waves.
Baylor returns home Sunday to resume conference play against Kansas State at 1 p.m. All home matches are played at the Baylor Tennis Center and feature live scoring at www.baylorbears.com.
