WACO, Texas - Baylor's No. 24 women's tennis team returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. hosting the Virginia Commonwealth Rams at the Baylor Tennis Center. The Bears have a 10-6 overall record and 4-1 Big 12 mark. VCU owns a 17-5 overall record.
Baylor and VCU have previously met only once, at 1994 win for the Bears, 5-4.
In the International Tennis Association's FILA rankings released Tuesday, Baylor jumped on spot to No. 24. Baylor boasts three ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. Junior Zuzana Zemenova leads the Bears at No. 28 while Zuzana Cerna sits at No. 49 and Lenka Broosova is ranked No. 93. Broosova also appears in the doubles poll with partner Klara Zrustova; the pair jumped to No. 38.
VCU sits right behind the Bears in the team poll, ranked No. 25. Tatsiana Uvarova is the only Ram ranked in singles at No. 26. In doubles, Olga Borisova and Marianna Yuferova are the nation's No. 2 tandem.
Baylor enters Sunday's match coming off of a solid 7-0 win last week over Kansas State. Zemenova, Cerna, Broosova, Zuzana Chmelarova, Iva Mihaylova and Jana Bielikova all earned singles points in BU's sweep. Cerna and Chmelarova won their doubles match on court one while Mihaylova and Zemenova won their doubles match on court three.
