WACO, Texas - Baylor's No. 24 women's tennis team defeated No. 25 Virginia Commonwealth Sunday afternoon 6-0 at the Baylor Tennis Center. The match was moved to 12:45 p.m. and singles were played first to accommodate VCU's traveling schedule; doubles was not played. Baylor improved its record to 11-6 overall and remains 4-1 in conference.
The Bears earned all six singles wins and Zuzana Chmelarova started it off for the Bears picking up the first point on court four with her 6-3, 6-1 win against Vera Petrashevitch. Klara Zrustova cleaned up on court six as she bested Olena Leonchuck 6-1, 6-0 .and No. 93 Lenka Broosova fought hard to defeat Olga Borisova 6-0, 6-3 on court four.
No. 49 Zuzana Cerna clinched Baylor's victory on court two taking Viktoria Koustantinova in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.
Iva Mihaylova finished out her match on court five defeating Maria Klokotzky 6-2, 6-2 and No. 28 Zuzana Zemenova took Marianna Yuferova to a tie breaker after splitting the first two sets. Zemenova won the tie breaker and match 2-6, 6-4, 12-10.
The Bears continue their home stand against Kansas Fri., March 30 at 5 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center. As with all Baylor home matches, live scoring is available at www.baylorbears.com.
