WACO, Texas --- The No. 16 Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep of Louisiana Tech defeating the Lady Techsters, 4-1, in the final game of the series in action at Getterman Stadium on Sunday. With the win, Baylor improves to 20-4 on the season as Louisiana Tech falls to 13-11 with the loss.
Nicole Wesley put the Lady Bears on the board first in the first inning as she stole home when Ashley Monceaux stole second base to put Baylor up by the score of 1-0.
The stolen base was one of four on the day by the freshman as she tied Kim Wilmoth (vs. Louisiana Tech, Feb. 22, 2003) and Shelly Green (at Texas Tech, March 11, 1996) for the most stolen bases in a single game in school history.
Chelsi Lake would give Baylor a two-run cushion as she laced a double off the right-center field wall, scoring Monceaux from second, to give the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead at the end of one inning.
With Louisiana Tech unable to cut into the lead over the next three innings, Baylor grabbed a 3-0 lead in the fourth as Kesley Sage scored easily from third on a sacrifice fly by Tiffany Wesley.
The Lady Techsters managed their only run of the series in the sixth on a solo home run to center field; however, Baylor freshman Kirsten Shortridge answered right back in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot over the right-center field wall, her second home run of the season, to make the score 4-1.
Lisa Ferguson, into the game in relief of starter Brittany Turner, shut down the Lady Techsters in the seventh to finish off the victory as she recorded her second save of the season and Baylor career-leading 17th save of her career.
Turner pitched well in the win as she improved to 2-0 on the season after allowing only two hits and one run while striking out four in 5.1 innings of work.
Krissi Oliver took the loss for Louisiana Tech as she fell to 8-7 on the season after allowing four runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The win was the eighth straight for the Lady Bears in the series as Baylor improved to 11-30 all-time against Louisiana Tech.
Baylor will return to action on Wednesday, March 7, when the Lady Bears host Sam Houston State in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
