WACO, Texas -

Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) fired a second round 65 and Baylor shot 280 in the afternoon session as the Bears stand alone in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club.

Williams recorded a 73 in the first round before his seven-under par 65, tying for the low round of the day. The low round ranks as the second-lowest score in the tournament's 21-year history.

"Colton really played well today," said head coach Greg Priest. "He had a lot of three-putts in the first round, but then in the afternoon his putter started getting really hot and he made some good birdies."

Baylor got off to a slow start, recording a 290 in the first round, but the Bears battled back in the afternoon to finish the day at six under par (290-280). Baylor trails tournament leader Southeastern Louisiana (277-285) by eight shots.

"I think that we played well for it being our first tournament of the spring," said Priest. "A lot of these teams are playing their second and third tournaments, and we got a little bit of a late start. We were a bit rusty in the morning, but Wes [Williams] shot a 69 to give us a good score."

Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) used two rounds of under-par play (69-71) to finish the day tied for ninth at four under-par. Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) finished at even par (72-72) after two rounds, and sits in a tie for 22nd place after the first day.

Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) finished at six over-par (76-74) in a tie for 53rd place, and Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) shot eight over-par (80-72) and is tied for 58th place.

"In the afternoon, we started playing a little bit better," said Priest. "Colton [Williams] had a low score, and then Wes [Williams] came back with a one-under par too."

Lamar (281-287) sits in second place, six shots out of first place, while the host team Louisiana-Lafayette (289-280) is in third place, seven shots off the pace.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday in the third and final round of the Louisiana Classics.
