Recap | Box Score
Head Coach Steve Smith:
On tonight's game:
"We had opportunities with the right guys at the plate, and we just didn't get it done tonight. They got a couple of timely hits, and they were able to benefit from about a half dozen infield hits, as well. But give them credit: they got some timely hits."
On playing without Raynor Campbell and Beamer Weems:
"We're obviously not at full strength, but that's just the way baseball is. I thought we played pretty well defensively, and I thought Drew (Bias) played pretty well at second. You'd like to have Raynor and Beamer at full speed, and to have their abilities in the game offensively, but we had our opportunities. This sport is interesting; you don't get to decide who is going to take the last shot. You don't get to decide who you're going to hand the ball off to. Who knows, those guys could've been in the game and never come up in a key situation. Bias didn't come up in a bases loaded situation. We had other regular guys that did, and I would assume that still would've happened even if those other two guys were available."
On Wade Mackey's pitching:
"(Aaron) Miller made a couple of nice plays out in right field behind him. They didn't really square the ball up well on him, and he pitched out of some problems. They created some stuff with the infield hits and the bunt game, and they played the game well. They gave us some bases. If you grade the game out on walks, wild pitches, stolen bases and things like that, we might win the game. They just got the timely hits that scored some runs."
Baylor freshman right fielder Aaron Miller:
On today's performance:
"We had a couple of times when we had guys on second and third with less than one out and we didn't capitalize. That's what you've got to do, and we just didn't get it done today."
On TCU's pitchers:
"They weren't bad. I think everyone at this level has good arms, but you just have to be able to make the adjustments and get the right pitches to swing at. We got plenty of hits, but we couldn't get them when we needed them."
On playing without Beamer Weems and Raynor Campbell:
"We've got to throw in two people there who might be a little uncomfortable, but we'll be alright. We still were able to put some hits on the board, and we competed really well today. We've had a few days off, and they've going to have a couple more, so maybe they'll be ready by this weekend. That's when we really need to get it going. This weekend is going to be really important."
