WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Baylor men's golf team shot a 315 team score to tie for ninth place after one round at the Boilermaker Invitational at the Kampen Course on Saturday afternoon.
Scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday morning, with two rounds of play, the start was pushed back to 10 a.m., and then delayed again until 12 noon, when tournament directors decided that the teams would play just one 18-hole round.
Scores were high on the first day, with tournament leader Purdue carding a 12-over par 300. The Bears got their low round of the day from Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) with a 4-over par 76 to tie for 13th in the individual standings.
Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) finished with a 77 (T21), while Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) shot 78 (T28) on the day. Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) is tied for 75th overall with a 12-over par 44, and Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) is in 78th place after the first day with a 14-over 86.
Ryan Brehm of Michigan State is the individual leader after the first round with an even-par 72. The Spartans sit in second place in the team standings, one shot behind Purdue.
The Boilermaker Invitational will continue on Sunday with a shotgun start scheduled for 10 a.m. EDT.
