WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Baylor men's golf team carded a final round 299, but could not overcome a difficult opening round score of 315, as the Bears finished in 12th place at the Boilermaker Invitational at the Kampen Course on Sunday afternoon.
Michigan State claimed the team title, shooting 292 on the final day to earn a nine-stroke victory over second-place Purdue. The Spartans' Ryan Brehm, the leader at even-par after day one, recorded a 2-under 70 to take individual medalist honors.
Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Bears with a two-round score of 5-over par after a second-round 73. Williams was the top individual finisher for Baylor in a tie for ninth.
Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) tied for 24th along with Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) at 8-over par. Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) shot 77 on the final day, after struggling to a 14-over par 86 in the first round, to finish in a tie for 73rd place. Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) finished in 76th place after a second-round score of 81.
The Bears return to action April 13-15 as Baylor travels to Tempe, Ariz. to compete in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
