INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee has selected 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams to participate in the 2007 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships hosted by the University of Georgia May 23-28. All matches will be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia. Two Bears will participate in singles while one doubles tandem was selected.
In singles, junior Lars Poerschke, ranked No. 11, is an automatic qualifier for the Bears and is seeded in the ninth-16th range; the specific seedings for those numbers have yet to be released. Poerschke owns a 25-8 overall record. Senior Michal Kokta, 25-10 on the season and ranked No. 19 nationally, is an at-large participant.
For the doubles teams, No. 25 David Galic and Matija Zgaga own a 9-6 overall record and are automatic qualifiers for Baylor and are the only doubles duo to appear in the selection for the Bears.
Along with the prestige of receiving a top seeding in the tournament, players who are seeded automatically obtain All-American status. This marks Poerschke's third appearance at the NCAA Tournament and his second time to earn All-American in singles. Kokta also will compete in the tournament for the third time in singles action, while Zgaga will compete in doubles play for the fourth time. Zgaga was a two-time All-American when paired with Benedikt Dorsch.
