WACO, Texas - The NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee selected 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams to compete in the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships including Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova and Zuzana Cerna for the singles tournament.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 18-22). The University of Georgia will serve as host.
Zemenova received a singles automatic qualification while Cerna is an at-large selection. The nomination is the third straight for Zemenova and second straight for Cerna. And in 2005 Zemenova claimed the singles national title, a first for any women's netter in Baylor history.
In doubles, Klara Zrustova and Lenka Broosova are alternates.
Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships will be awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee will apply the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.
Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships will be awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee will apply the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.
Baylor as a team will return to the courts hosting Oral Roberts in NCAA Regional first-round action Sat., May 12, at 11 a.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
