Mackey Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

On the night, Mackey held the Horned Frogs to just six base-runners as he walked one, hit two and allowed one batter to reach via an error. He worked out of a jam in the second with an inning-ending double play and stranded runners on the corners in the third. Mackey did not allow another base-runner until a two-out bunt single in the seventh. That snapped a streak of 13 consecutive batters retired; Mackey retired 20 of the game's final 21 batters.
Mackey's previous career long outing was 5.0 innings on three occasions, and he tied his career high with five strikeouts. Both hits allowed were to the same batter.
This is Baylor's second Big 12 weekly honor this season; shortstop Beamer Weems was honored as player of the week March 26 after leading the Bears to a series victory over Texas Tech.
Mackey is the 11th Baylor pitcher to earn the conference's weekly honor. He joins Cory VanAllen (2004) as the only Baylor freshmen to be named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.
