INDIANAPOLIS - The goals are different now for Trent Shelton.
Before, throughout college, it was mostly about catching footballs, but now he's trying to make the roster of a team loaded with top-level players at his position, a team that won the Super Bowl last season.
Shelton, a rookie wide receiver who signed with the Colts as a free agent shortly after the NFL Draft this past April, still wants to catch footballs.
But now he's focusing on something more. He's covering punts, and basically doing whatever he can do to get noticed.
Because he's a rookie free agent. And that's what rookie free agents do.
"I'm just doing whatever I can to make plays and not mess up on assignments," Shelton said this week, a week in which the Colts (0-2 in the preseason) will play the Detroit Lions (2-0) in a preseason game at the RCA Dome Saturday at 7 p.m.
