WACO, Texas --- The Baylor soccer team opens the 2007 season when the Bears travel to face Houston in an exhibition match at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
"After pushing themselves over the last couple weeks of practice, the team is really excited to go out there and play," head coach George Van Linder said. "We have had a good start to practice and this will be the final tune-up for the team before the start of the regular season next week."
Baylor returns 10 starters and 21 letter-winners from last year's team that advanced to the Big 12 Conference Championship for the first time since 2001.
Ashley Noah, a first-team All-Big 12 Conference selection at goalkeeper last season, leads the way for the Bears as she returns for her senior season. Entering the season, Noah is just 63 saves shy of breaking the Big 12 Conference record for most saves in a career, currently held by former Baylor standout Dawn Greathouse (397, 1997-2000).
Sophomore Katie White and senior Pat Roscovius are the leading returning scorers for Baylor this season, as the duo finished with five points apiece last season.
Houston finished last season with a record of 9-10, including a 3-6 record in Conference USA matches. The Cougars are led by first-year head coach Susan Bush.
Baylor will open the 2007 regular season when the Bears host Louisiana-Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, at the newly-remodeled Betty Lou Mays Field.
