After an off day Monday, the Baylor football team returned to the practice field in continue preparations for Saturday's season-opener at No. 22 TCU with a two-hour full-pad workout Tuesday afternoon on the grass practice fields at Floyd Casey Stadium.
"I think our kids are ready to play and need to play," Baylor head coach Guy Morriss said following practice. "Really, up until today, we were kind of getting stale, I think. I thought our tempo was ok and the defense got after it pretty good today, but we just didn't do a very good job executing offensively. We had too many dropped balls, an interception and a fumble. We had a lineman jump off-sides and we gave up a couple of sacks, so it wasn't real crispy four days before we kickoff.
"I know they are fresh and feel good," he added. "They bounced around pretty good. I don't know if they've had some time off now and their minds weren't right back on the practice fields 100 percent or not. But, most all of that was mental. Hopefully, they'll bounce back tomorrow and have a good one. That will make me feel a lot better."
The Bears received good news from the NCAA Clearinghouse Tuesday as freshman wide receiver Stacy Williams (Houston, Texas) received clearance to enroll at Baylor. The Yates High School graduate will be in Waco early Wednesday to enroll in fall semester classes, which started Aug. 20.
"Stacy will be here in the morning, bright and early in class," Morriss said. "He's got to go through all his paperwork and that sort of thing. Then, he'll have to go through the five-day acclimation period like everyone else."
Baylor will return to the practice field Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 p.m.
Notes: Sophomore offensive Thad Boatner (right knee strain) and freshman linebacker Chris Francis (left knee strain) missed Tuesday's practice ... Morriss said there was no update on the status of offensive lineman Courtney Green's situation with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
