HOUSTON - Baylor completed its women's tennis fall season opener with a championship match-up between junior Jana Bielikova and sophomore Zuzana Chmelarova as Bielikova came out on top to capture the Rice Tennis Classic in Houston on Sunday.

"Jana is a quiet person but she made a loud statement this weekend," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "We are excited to see both her and Zuzi have a strong start to the fall season."

After advancing to the quarterfinals on Friday, both Bielikova and Chmelarova won their respective matches for a Baylor versus Baylor championship match in the Jimmy John's Singles bracket. Bielikova made quick work of the first set, winning 6-2. The second match was more evenly matched, but Bielikova again came out victorious, 7-5, to pick up her first collegiate invitational.

Freshman Karolina Filipiak also completed for Baylor at the event. Filipiak recovered from an opening round loss in the Jersey Mike's Singles, to win the consolation bracket over Rice's Christine Dao in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

The team will return to action on Friday as Baylor's hosts its annual HEB Fall Invitational in the Turner Riverfront Athletic Complex on campus.
