Equestrian Opens Season at Home

WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team will open its 2007-08 season on Sunday, Sept. 30 when the University of Georgia Lady Bulldogs come to Waco. The two teams will begin competition at 1 p.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center, located on University Parks Drive.
Baylor, beginning its third season as a varsity sport, is coming off a successful 2006-07 season. The Western team finished fifth in the Varsity Equestrian National Championships and the English team placed eighth. The team, when combining both Western and English disciplines, finished eighth.
Head coach Ellen White and assistant coach Trista Armstrong welcome back 16 letterwinners off last season's squad including English's Nicole Brown and Mary Smitson and Western's Madelyn Mooney. All three riders earned team MVP honors last year, Brown in fences, Smitson in flat and Mooney in reining.
Georgia, in its sixth season of competition, opened its season last Sunday as they hosted Delaware State and TCU. The Lady Bulldogs downed Delaware State 13-7 but edged out a victory over TCU. The two team tied 10-10 but Georgia won on the tiebreaker 1,354 - 1,349. Georgia finished third in the overall team standings of last season's Varsity Equestrian National Championships after claiming second in English and seventh in Western.
The show is open to the public, no admission is charged.
