PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova both advanced at the 2008 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday. The duo combined for a doubles win, while Borsanyi won her first round match of the Qualifying Draw.
Borsanyi and Broosova, the fifth-seeded team at the championships, defeated Monika Danevic and Najda Gilchrist of Georgia, 8-6, in the first round of the Qualifying Doubles Draw.
"I like the way Lenka and Csilla found a way to win after a slow start and getting down 4-1," said head coach Joey Scrivano.
In addition, Borsanyi, seeded fourth in the Qualifying Singles Draw, won her opening round match 7-5, 6-1 over Janette Bejlikova of South Florida.
Borsanyi dropped her second round match 6-0, 6-3 to Tara Iyer of Duke.
"In our singles losses we just didn't do the fundamentals well and that cost us," said Scrivano. "At a tournament of this caliber you can't come in here and expect your opponent to give you anything."
In other first-round action, sophomore Taylor Ormond dropped her opening match 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 to Georgia Tech's Christy Striplin. She rallied in her consolation match, winning in three sets over Yevgeniya Stupak of ETSU 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
"On the bright side Taylor competed hard in her consolation match and came back from set down and a break to beat a quality opponent," said Scrivano.
