PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Sophomore Taylor Ormond won two matches in the Qualifying Singles Consolation Draw to advance to the consolation finals on Friday at the ITA/Riviera All-American tournament.

In the morning session, Ormond defeated Samantha Murray of Northwestern 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Qualifying Singles Consolation Draw. Then in the afternoon, Ormond took down Alejandra Guerra of UNC-Greensboro 6-2, 7-5. She will face Maria Sanchez of USC on Friday morning.

"I really like the way Taylor is competing and staying alive in this event," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "She is playing with more confidence with every match she plays."

In other action, Lenka Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi, who advanced through the Qualifying Doubles Draw earlier in the week, lost to top-ranked Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe of Fresno State.

"We lost to a very good Fresno State doubles team," said Scrivano. "We need to learn from this loss and bounce back quickly."

Broosova also began her singles action in the Main Draw of the tournament, falling to Chelsey Gullickson of Georgia 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. She will continue action on Friday in the Main Singles Consolation Draw against an opponent to be named.

"Lenks ran into a very talented freshman today," said Scrivano. "She did a great job of making adjustments after losing the first set, but Gullickson was just too good on the big points. Now Lenks has a great opportunity tomorrow to get back on track and make a run in the back draw."
