FORT WORTH, Texas - Baylor sophomore fell to TCU's Nina Munch-Soegaard 6-0, 6-3 in the Main Draw Finals at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Ormond, who lost in the 2007 finals to teammate Lenka Broosova, will automatically qualify for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 6-9.
"Nina is a top notch player and she showed it again today," said head coach Joey Scrivano. "She put on an impressive display this tournament. I'm very proud of Taylor for earning the opportunity to play another college Grand Slam. The National indoor is the toughest collegiate event to qualify for and she has now done it two years in a row. I'm confident she'll play very well there."
Ormond won five-straight matches to reach the Main Draw Final and holds a season record of 9-3 overall. At the ITA/Riviera All-American earlier this month, Ormond reached the consolation championship before falling to Maria Sanchez of Southern California.
Ormond was named the 2008 Big 12 Freshman of the Year after finishing the conference schedule at 7-2 overall, playing at the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 positions. This summer she won the Canadian University Championship.
Baylor returns to action on Friday as the Lady Bears participate in the Palm Springs Desert Classic.
